Hi! Angler said that I could create a topic for my doubts in russian, and here I am - I think this part of the forum is the best place for this, since my question is connected to a composition from long ago (1991) that I'm not satisfied with, and besides transposing it to a non-retrogradable scale (G - G# - B - C - D# - E - G) I also want to put its lyrics in russian. :)

The song is called "The Third Part of Love", it's loosely based on a Prokofiev's composition, and it has itself three parts:

I - Eponymous introduction
II - The 2 AM Sun
III - The Mortel / Theme for a Syncswim Exhibition / You Will Survive.

The "Eponymous Introduction" is pratically all instrumental, but I'd like to introduce a phrase in russian in the counter-melody of the basic theme. The counter-melody is formed of nine eight-notes, with accent on the first, the fourth and the seventh note:

B - G - B - C - D# - C - E - E - B

I was thinking of the word "вечером" in the last three notes, and since the name of the second part is "The 2 AM Sun", I thought the whole phrase would be something like "come and see the morning at evening". Do you have any idea of how could it fit in the melody?

Thanks in advance!

Hello. It is hard to get an idea of what you really want without listening for a piece. I think the best bet is to perhaps to create a little demo of that particular bit to give us a feel about the melody and to write your text in Russian then we can perhaps check the text and maybe correct it a bit if needed :) I can host your MP3 on my site if you like.

Cheers

Victor

How about "ночью приходи встречать рассвет" ("come at night to meet the sunrise")?
"Вечером" would be nice to have but it takes three syllables and then it would be hard to fit in the rest. Something like "приходи к рассвету вечером" ("come when it's about to dawn tonight"). I understand it has to sound weird, right? :)

Thanks a lot, guys! For my unaccostumed pronounciation it seems that the second phrase is easier to sing, although the first one seems more lyrical. That's because the melody runs really fast. Is the first phrase comfortable for fast singing?

Following Victor's advice, I could make a MIDI file of it - it would be great even for the sequence of the lyrics of the second part, but I don't know to where I could upload the file. Could I send it to Victor's e-mail? What do you think?

Not really. I can imagine "vstr" wouldn't be comfortable at all, even native Russian would have to concentrate in order to say it fast and clean but that's just how this language is. It reminds me of some old classic song
"Поезд мчится в чистом поле" where the tempo is particularly fast and these uneasy combinations of consonants "mch", "vch" are stressed and articulated by the singers. You can tell they had to practise a lot to do it right.

Phew! That comforts me :) I now know I'm not alone in my stumblings. I'd like to hear this song, I'll try to find it to download. Do you know of a good version of it by some group? Maybe trying to sing it along will be a good pronounciation exercise!

I'll make a MIDI file to upload in the next days, Victor! Thanks! :)

Found on this page: http://mp3.retroportal.ru/10.shtml

2. Also kids chorus:

It can download forever, this particular hosting is notorious.

3. Andrianov sings:

But the thing is: I couldn't get a lot of what Nellep is singing without looking at the lyrics :) I liked #2 and #3 better.

I just found these sites while searching for this particular song. Now we have some classical resources. I should listen to some of that stuff myself since I always neglected classical music :)

Авангард :)
Well, I stick to my previous suggestions. So, this phrase comes at the end. What is the whole piece of lyrics for 06.mid? Are there two voices singing two different lines simultaneously?

I put the 06.mid for you to get the idea about where the voice would fit.

In fact there are four instruments in this part - the bass in 3/4, the chords, and the two melodies in 5/8. From the two lines, one of them is too fast to be singable, I think.

The other one was also intended to be instrumental in that bars (the voice would be only in the part shown in 07.mid), but I'd be very glad if you might think of some lyrics to it also ;)
